Ofcom is investigating Meta over Instants, a feature on Instagram, news organisations reported on Tuesday. The inquiry concerns whether the risks of the feature were properly assessed.

The regulator reportedly said Instagram had not fully assessed the risks the feature posed before it was launched.

According to reports, the watchdog wants to establish whether Meta may have broken the UK's Online Safety Act. Its focus is reportedly on whether the company checked adequately that children could not reach Instants and that the feature would not display illegal material. The feature was reportedly described as similar in style to one on Snapchat.

The investigation concerns a potential breach, according to reports, and no finding has been reported.
