Google Cloud unveiled the Gemini agent on 8 October at Gemini at Work 2026, describing it as a general-purpose agent for work. The company says it can be used through one prompt box for tasks ranging from answering questions and knowledge work to coding and content creation.

Google Cloud said the agent picks whichever model is best for each task and comes with cost controls built in. Above all, it said, the agent offers the security, governance and administration that enterprise customers require.

According to the company, the agent holds an organisation’s entire business context. It plans the work, draws on skills and tools and connects to the business systems of Google Cloud customers, then hands back completed work in the documents, inbox and developer environments those customers already use.
