Users of the Asos shopping app have received push notifications that appear to have come from hackers, news organisations reported on Tuesday.

The notification reportedly told recipients that the retailer had been hacked. Asos is reportedly investigating the messages. The alerts were reportedly sent through the app of the clothing and beauty store.

Accounts of how far the alerts spread differ. Thousands of customers reportedly got the notification, according to one report. Dozens of people reportedly appeared to have received the unusual message, according to another.

The reports did not say how the notifications came to be sent through the app, or whether any customer information was affected. No statement from the retailer on the cause was included in them.
