The European Commission said in Brussels on 23 October 2026 that it has opened a formal antitrust investigation into Omya. The probe will assess whether the company has breached EU competition rules in its dealings with customers in the paper industry.

At issue is whether Omya has required those customers to purchase all or most of their calcium carbonates from Omya itself. The Commission described the conduct under review as possibly anticompetitive.
