Binance has been hit by a hack of about $6.3bn, an incident suspected to be the biggest theft in the history of the crypto industry. The exchange said a major hack had struck its funds and that it was moving to freeze what was taken.

About half of the amount has been frozen, news organisations reported, and about $3bn had reportedly been located so far. According to reports, the company gave no update on the remaining $3.3bn, and its co-founder Yi He reportedly said Binance would cover the hacking losses. Binance is reportedly the world's largest cryptocurrency exchange.

Experts have identified North Korea as the likely culprit. Two analytics firms have reportedly linked the attack to TraderTraitor, a hacking unit from North Korea.
